Rates: Find out what you need to know regarding Payment of Rates.

Rubbish and Recycling collection: The Council has three days for ordinary kerbside rubbish and recycling collection on Monday, Tuesday and Friday depending on your location. Refuse Sites : Council operates two refuse sites (tips) in the Derwent Valley.

National Park Waste Transfer Station

There are fees associated with disposal of waste. In 2023/24 rate payers were offered 12 Tip Vouchers with a value of $6 each that are redeemable at the gate to offset some of the cost of waste disposal.

Residents who rent and don't receive rates notices should speak to their Landlord. Department of Housing tenants can collect their tip ticket allocation from the Council offices on Circle Street, New Norfolk.

Animal Control: All dogs must be registered with Council, and if you have three dogs or more, you'll require a Kennel Licence. Information about how to get these, and information about animal control and impounded dogs, see our animal management page.

Council's Dog Management Policy brochure includes info about your rights and responsibilities as a dog owner, and maps indicating off-lead, on-lead and no-go-zones.

Children and youth: There are a variety of services and facilities available for families and children in the valley. They include child care, free childhood immunisation sessions and several youth services including PCYC, Derwent Valley Future Action Team (D'FAT), 26 TEN educational service and the StreetSmart handbook, a helpful resource for young people, parents and teachers.

Health and Community Services: Derwent Valley is a member of The Right Place Health and Community Services program, which helps people better connect with health and community services.

Fire: Council carries out an annual fire hazard management and abatement program. Read about this and how you can protect your property. Living in an area such as the Derwent Valley brings you in close proximity to many people with wood fires, and it's important to know about monitoring Air quality and domestic smoke management.

Meetings of Council: Ordinary meetings of Council are held on the fourth Thursday of each month at the Court House, Circle Street, New Norfolk, commencing at 6.00pm unless noted otherwise.

Meetings are open to the public and you are most welcome to attend. Meeting minutes and agendas, audio recordings and other information on Council meetings can be found on our website.

Elected Members: If you have a question or concern you'd like to raise, Elected Members can be contacted by phone or email.  See who your elected members are along with their contact details. 

Customer feedback: If you would like to provide feedback to Council or make a request for service, please complete a Customer Feedback Form.

Facility hire and events: Council maintains a number of indoor and outdoor facilities for community use. View Council's Facility Hire Policy, application form, fees and charges. 

If you are planning a public event, please refer to Council’s Event Management guidelines, tools and forms and don’t forget to list your community event on Council’s event calendar.

Sport and recreation: Council owns and/or maintains a number of sport and recreation spaces.

These include parks, reserves, playgrounds, Boyer Oval, Kensington Equestrian Park, two outdoor swimming pools (New Norfolk and Bushy Park, open seasonally), Derwent Valley Sports Centre (operated by PCYC), New Norfolk Tennis Club, The Esplanade and river pontoon, and more.
