Peppermint Hill Landfill

Location: Dean Street, New Norfolk

Council owns the the Peppermint Hill Waste Disposal Site (New Norfolk Tip)  which is operated under contract. Residents of the Derwent Valley can use the tip to dispose of domestic waste.

Summer Hours: Starting on the first Monday after the commencement of Daylight Savings.
Monday, Wednesday, Thursday 9:00 - 4:30pm
Tuesday, Friday 7:30am to 4:30pm
Weekends 10:30am – 3:30pm.

Winter Hours: Starting on the first Monday after the completion of Daylight Savings
Monday, Wednesday, Thursday 9:00am - 3:30pm
Tuesday, Friday 7:30am – 3:30pm
Weekends 10:30am – 3:30pm.

Tip Coupons/vouchers

In 2023  Derwent Valley Ratepayers were issued with 12 coupons at the value of $6 each in their rates notice. These coupons are redeemable at the tip gate to offset  tip fees for domestic waste. Tip coupons are non-refundable.

Commercial and Bulk Waste Disposal at Peppermint Hill

Peppermint Hill Waste Disposal Site also accepts bulk  / commercial waste. Fees are based on volume and are calculated at the gate starting from $73.

Please note that on days of a Total Fire Ban and or extreme high winds the Peppermint Hill Refuse Site will be closed
Council apologises for any inconvenience that this may cause our ratepayers but safety is our number one concern. 

Please check the Tas Fire Service Website for information regarding Total Fire Ban days.

Residents wanting to access the refuse disposal area are required to present their current drivers licence or other identification with a Derwent Valley address on it. (Different fees and charges apply for people who are not residents within the Derwent Valley.)

Cars, utilities and cars with trailers will be able to access the area to dispose of domestic waste, green waste, white goods, e-waste, TV’s, metals and all other recyclable items.

Disposal of Refrigerators or Freezers - These must have the doors removed and a certificate from a refrigeration mechanic must be shown to the tip operator confirming removal of the gas unit.

Disposal of Car Bodies - Not accepted.

Drum Muster - Is conducted on a weekly basis (Thursday) in accordance with the refuse operating hours listed above. To arrange an appointment please contact Council on (03) 6261 8500.
