Overview
Council is developing a Reconciliation Action Plan. The development of the Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) advances our commitment set out in our Strategic Plan 2023- 2033 to “continue our journey to increase understanding, respect, and opportunities for Aboriginal people in the Derwent Valley.”
There are four levels of RAPs within the Reconciliation Australia program - Reflect, Innovate, Stretch, Elevate. These set out the minimum elements required from an organization to build strong relationships, respect, and opportunities within the organisation and community.
All RAPs contain mandatory actions and deliverables as set out in the Reconciliation Australia template with annual reporting on our progress.
Council is embarking on the first stage – with the development of a ‘Reflect’ RAP.

Developing the RAP
We have developed a draft reconciliation action plan and engaged with the community during August 2024 to help refine it.
Feedback received during the consultation period is now being reviewed and considered as part of developing the final version of the Reconciliation Action Plan. Once completed, Council will lodge a second draft with Reconciliation Australia for their review and provisional endorsement.
This is a first step on our reconciliation journey, and there will be many learnings and opportunities along the way.
We will share outcomes of engagement and keep the community informed as we go and look forward to your future contribution.
