Bushy Park War Memorial Swimming Pool

BUSHY PARK POOL CLOSED FOR  2023/24 season due to PLANNED bridge construction

The Department of State Growth (Tasmanian Government) are planning to replace the bridge on Gordon River Road next to the Bushy Park Pool.

To enable construction of the new bridge, State Growth have planned for a temporary bypass and bridge to be constructed on the western (swimming pool) side of the existing bridge to allow the road to remain open to a single lane of traffic while the existing bridge is demolished, and the new bridge built in its place. This temporary bypass will encroach on land near the roadside fence and entrance to the pool. At this stage it is also likely that once the new bridge is in place, the entrance gate to the pool will need to shift further north.

After receiving plans from State Growth's contractor Pitt & Sherry, Council resolved at the May 2023 Council Meeting to not open the Bushy Park Pool for the upcoming 2023/24 season due to the increased safety risk of the construction which is expected to impact safe pedestrian access to the pool.

The contract for the operator of New Norfolk and Bushy Park pool needed to be finalized in mid 2023 for the 23/24 summer season. In making the decision to close the Bushy Park Pool for the upcoming season for public safety reasons, Council used the latest information available from State Growth at the time regarding the project timeline.
