Go Local First Campaign

Support local business in the Derwent Valley

From your local electrician, butcher, florist, market stall, café or pub, the Derwent Valley is lucky to have some wonderful small businesses and small business owners that serve our community and help make the Derwent Valley a great place to live.

The last couple of years have been particularly tough for many of these businesses, and now is the time to show them your support.

Go Local First encourages and reminds us to choose local businesses when purchasing products, goods and services.

Before jumping in the car to go shopping in Hobart, first think if there is a local Derwent Valley business that could supply what you need. Doing this will help get the economy back on its feet, keep more locals in jobs, and more money in our community.

Derwent Valley Council helped to launch the Go Local First campaign in the first half of 2022. We promoted the campaign through local media, street banners in New Norfolk; a social media campaign at https://www.facebook.com/GoLocalFirstDV and https://www.instagram.com/golocalfirstdv that profiled some of our local businesses; and by encouraging local businesses to use the #GoLocalFirstDV hash tag in their own marketing.

Who is behind this campaign, and what is next?

Go Local First is a national campaign initiated by COSBOA (Council of Small Business Organisations Australia) to support local businesses who have been impacted by COVID-19.

Derwent Valley Council led the rollout of Go Local First in our community during the first half of 2022. Council continues to support the campaign by encouraging local businesses to get involved with the national Go Local First campaign and creating their own content that can be shared.
