All-access all-weather bus stop upgrades for New Norfolk

Council has been successful in obtaining funding to upgrade 18 bus stops across New Norfolk, to bring them in line with current accessibility standards.

The funding from the State Government will deliver a significant improvement to bus stop infrastructure, increasing compliance with disability standards and enhancing the passenger experience.

The upgrades will differ from site to site, and will include footpath leveling works to 12 stops, new concrete standing and boarding areas for 9, new pram ramps for ease of access at 4 of the sites and 2 new shelters, as well as new directional and warning tactile elements and signage for all 18 stops.

The bus stops noted for upgrading across New Norfolk, are:

  • New Norfolk Central Bus Station (Laskey's Carpark)
  • 56-61 George Street
  • 7 Blair Street
  • 47 George Street
  • 89A Benjamin Terrace
  • 256 Back River Road
  • 101 Blair Street (New Norfolk High School, includes Bus Shelter Installation)
  • 37 Benjamin Terrace (includes Bus Shelter Installation)
  • Arthur Square, Pioneer Avenue
  • 5 Blair Street
  • 32 North Crescent
  • 14 Southview Crescent
  • 18 Back River Road (New Norfolk Fire Station - includes new pram ramps across Back River Road)
  • 13A Sixth Avenue
  • 74 North Crescent
  • 55 Derwent Terrace (includes new pram ramps across Derwent Terrace)
  • 243 Back River Road (includes new pram ramps across Back River Road)
  • 38 Rocks Road
  • Third Avenue ( includes new pram ramps across Third Avenue)

It is anticipated that Round 1 bus stop upgrades will be completed by mid-February except for the shelter installations, which, due to manufacturing timelines, will be completed in March.

The Department of State Growth will also be looking to upgrade bus stops along State Growth owned roads later in the year.
