Bushy Park Community Meeting – Facilitator's Report and Survey

Derwent Valley Council has met with the Upper Derwent Valley community twice in 2026 to discuss the future of the Bushy Park War Memorial Pool site.

Council has been clear that the pool cannot reopen, due to a combination of factors:

  • regulatory and planning constraints
  • no viable business case for reopening
  • loss of vehicle access caused by the Styx River bridge works
  • the pool being well beyond its operational life

Council acknowledges that past commitments to reopen the pool should not have been made and apologises for the impact this has had on the community.

Council recognises the pool site as an important community gathering place and wants to work with the community to decide what comes next for the site, the war memorial, and Bushy Park and Glenora more broadly.

At both meetings, residents shared strong views on community health and wellbeing, youth engagement and safety, green space, the memorial, and wider infrastructure needs such as footpaths and speed limits.
