We perform ongoing works all year round as part of scheduled maintenance, capital works and operational management of Council’s assets. Scheduled works are subject to change due to weather and other circumstances. If you have any enquiries please contact Council.


Council-led projects currently underway or commencing shortly

Sorell Creek & Glen Dhu Flood Resilience Plan

Works continue on the multi-year implementation of the Flood Resilience Plan in partnership with Derwent Catchment. Funding through the Disaster Ready Fund will help address willow infestations, undertake erosion control, educate property owners about flood plans and mitigation, and revegetate and improve infrastructure within the catchment.

Lachlan River Flood Resilience Plan

Works continue in partnership with Derwent Catchment on the implementation of the Flood Resilience Plan. This plan, partially funded through the Preparing Australian Communities Grant aims to address the willow infestation and undertake erosion control and bank stabilisation as well as revegetate areas of the Lachlan River.

Arthur Square Toilet refurbishment

Through funding from the Federal Government, works are underway to upgrade the existing toilets, add a new accessible compliant toilet, and make improvements to the car parking area.

A small demountable next to the existing toilet block is providing toilet facilities while the works are underway.  The upgrade will take approximately 8 weeks with completion expected by mid-March.

Carter Court, Malbina Cemetery Road, Back River Road, Lower Swamp Road, Westerway Carpark

Road resurfacing works are to be undertaken on Carter Court,  and the internal roads at Malbina Cemetery, during the week of 19 - 23 February.

During the works at the cemetary, visitors m ay be asked to park at the front and walk into the cemetery. We will aim to accomodate funerals that must occcur that week and works will cease while funerals are underway.

Following these works, sections of Back River Road, Lower Swamp Road,  as well as the sealing of the carpark adjacent to the Westerway Community Hall will be completed.

General Access Bus Stop upgrades

Improvements to general access bus stops to bring them in line with current accessibility standards.

The funding from the State Government is helping to deliver a significant improvement to bus stop infrastructure, increasing compliance with disability standards and enhancing the passenger experience.
The level of upgrades will differ from site to site, but include footpath leveling works to 12 stops, new concrete standing and boarding areas for 9, new pram ramps for ease of access at 4 of the sites and 2 new shelters, as well as new directional and warning tactile elements and signage for all 18 stops.

Round 1 bus stop upgrades are underway and anticipated to be completed by end-February except for the shelter installations, which, due to manufacturing timelines, will be completed in March.


Upcoming in the next 12 months


Glenora Road

Through funding from the State Government, Council will continue rehabilitation works on Glenora Road to address sight distance, drainage issues and improve road surfacing.

The project will include improvements to the road pavement and seal, as well as crash barrier and other safety improvements. Works are due to start early in the new year and will be carried out with funding from the State Government.

Lower Swamp Road

Through funding from the State Government, work on approximately 1 kilometre of Lower Swamp Road will be undertaken to widen the road surface and improve drainage.

Boyer Oval and Tynwald Park Sporting Election Commitment

Works will commence on the multiyear project to design and construct female change rooms and improve spectator facilities at Boyer Oval, as well as change room facilities for soccer at Tynwald Park.

Development of Flood modelling for the Lachlan River

This project will involve a Flood modelling risk analysis and mapping of the Lachlan River and its connection to the Derwent River adjacent to Tynwald Park. The objective of this study is to improve understanding of flood behaviour and impacts, and better inform management of flood risk in the study area.


From time to time, projects are undertaken by third parties. Although these are not Council-led projects, they are included here for the community's information.


UPCOMING WORKS - GORDON RIVER ROAD, MAYDENA 

The Department of State Growth have advised they will be repairing Gordon River Road, between Glenora and Strathgordon, from Wednesday, 7 February 2024 to Monday, 24 March 2024.

There will be a reduced speed limit with frequent lane closures during the working hours, 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.
