2019 - 2020 Community Grants Program
Round Two now closed - successfuly recipients will be announced in the coming weeks.
Each year Council provides funding to community groups through its Community Grants Program.
Grants are available to Derwent Valley based, not for profit organisations for projects that provide a benefit within the local community. Council encourages groups who are completing an application to provide detailed information, including quotes and benefits, to make sure they meet all the necessary criteria.
This program provides grants for community organisations and groups located in and/or directly benefiting residents within the Derwent Valley Municipality.
Community grants can be used for;
- Community events
- Cultural events
- Environmental initiatives
- Asset Purchase, which will enhance the functions of the group/organisation within the Derwent Valley community
- Projects in the local community
- Encouraging wider use of/improving access to community facilities.
Community Grants are advertised up to twice a year, pending budget allocation. Funding is provided for projects or events occurring in the following 12 months.
Grant Applications
To apply for a Community Grant, please complete an application form and return to Council via email to dvcouncil@dvc.tas.gov.au or mail to PO BOX 595, New Norfolk, TAS 7140.
All applicants will be advised of the outcome of their application in writing following the closing date of each round. All enquiries regarding applications should be to RTudor@dvc.tas.gov.au.
There is a limit of one (1) application per organisation/group for each financial year.
Grant Acquittals
Recipients of Grants are required to complete an acquittal form within 6 weeks of project completion. Acquittal forms can be found under Related Links.
Organisations/Groups that have been successful in receiving a grant will be unable to apply for another Community Grant until the acquittal form is completed and returned for the current funding agreement.
Criteria
Community Grant Applications will be assessed against formal criteria. This criteria, along with guidelines for applications can be found in the Community Grants Policy under Related Links.
Community Grant applications are assessed by the Community Grants Committee and recommendations are provided to Council for final approval.
Grant Round One recipients
Round One of the Community Grants Program 2019/2020 awarded six grants to community groups and organisations, with $14,000 of budgeted funds remaining for Round Two.*
This round brings the total to more than $230,000 that has been awarded to Community Organisations from Council since the Community Small Grants Program started in 1997/98.
The 2019/2020 Community Small Grant Round One recipients* were:
• Lachlan Hall Committee - $792 for replacement of kitchen floor covering
• Derwent Valley Choir - $400 for new music scores
• Upper Derwent United Hall Inc. - $500 for whipper snipper
• Derwent Valley State Emergency Service - $2,000 for rescue training dummy
• Westerway Primary School for $1,000 for 100th Anniversary event activities
• Derwent Valley Arts - $1,199 for an outdoor data projector, (conditions apply)
Round Two will open in January 2020 and Council’s Community Development Officer will be running a workshop to help anyone who would like help with their application, are not sure about what to do, or to any organisations who were previously unsuccessful.
*New Norfolk Neighbourhood Watch were conditionally approved for a grant of $3,025, on the grounds that further funded was acquired. As this condition was not able to be met, those funds have now been withdrawn and added to the funding pool for Round Two.
