Australia Day Awards

Derwent Valley Australia Day Awards 2024  

This Australia Day, 26 January, we invite the community to attend an award ceremony for our local community champions in the Council forecourt between 9:00am and 10:30am.

Following the awards, everyone is invited to join Mayor Michelle Dracoulis, Elected Members and the community in some light refreshments.

In recognition of the wonderful contribution our local citizens make to the Derwent Valley, the Mayor will present the 2024 Australia Day Awards.

Following the awards,  join the Lions Club of New Norfolk for Australia Day celebrations on the Esplanade from 11:00am to 2:30pm.  There will be a free BBQ, music and children's activities. For more information, see the club's Facebook page.

In Maydena, residents can join the Maydena Community Association Inc for the annual run/walk to Junee Caves at 10:30am, followed by a community BBQ at Mayne Street park at 12:00pm.

The Awards

The Awards recognise individuals and organisations that have made a noteworthy contribution during the current year, and/or give an outstanding service over a number of years to the community, over and above normal employment duties.

Nominations are made by fellow members of the community in five award categories:

1. Citizen of the Year
2. Young Citizen of the Year
3. Senior Citizen of the Year
4. Community Event of the Year
5. Sports Person/Team/Group of the Year
