Australia Day 2020

Australia Day 2020 - Sunday, 26 January 2020, 10:00am-2:00pm

Australia Day is a day for all Australians, no matter where our personal stories began. It’s a day to reflect on what it means to be Australian, to celebrate contemporary Australia and to acknowledge our history.

The Derwent Valley Australia Day celebrations will be held at New Norfolk's beautiful Esplanade with free family activities throughout the day. Refreshments will be available to purchase on site.

EVENTS

Events on the day include the annual Australia Day Fun Run and Walk with Spot Prizes and Medallions awarded to place-getters, followed by the Colour Run. 

10:00am - 5km Run/ Walk or 10km Run
11.15am - Presentations

These events are FREE to participate. Download your entry form under Related Links. Completed forms should be returned to the registration desk on Australia Day. Please do not return to Council. 
Please note - no dogs are allowed on the course. 

The Annual Australia Day Fun Run and Walk is proudly supported by the Derwent Valley Council, New Norfolk Guardian Pharmacy, Freedom Health & Wellness, Burn Functional Fitness and Tasmanian Road Runners.

AUSTRALIA DAY AMBASSADOR

Derwent Valley Council is pleased to welcome Rosalie ‘Rosie’ Martin as the 2020 Australia Day Ambassador for the Derwent Valley. Rosalie was 2017 Tasmanian Australian of the Year and is the founder of Tasmanian charity Chatter Matters.

Rosie will be involved with official proceedings on the day, and will be speaking about positive communication being key to healthy and successful lives and the doorway to positive relationships, education, and employment.

AUSTRALIA DAY AWARDS

Official proceedings will commence at 12:00 noon, followed by the giving of our Australia Day Awards. 

The categories for the Derwent Valley Australia Day Awards are:

  • Citizen of the Year
  • Young Citizen of the Year
  • Senior Citizen of the Year
  • Community Event of the Year
  • Sports Person/Team/Group of the Year.
